La agenda de la computación ubicua: genealogía de su olvido y fundamentos de su prospectiva

La diversidad artefactual impide captar el impulso detrás del cambio tecnológico. El objetivo de este artículo es sistematizar la agenda de la computación ubicua como vector de esas transformaciones y como programa de I+D fundamental para comprender las tecnologías mediales actuales. El método de aproximación deriva del análisis crítico propio de perspectivas materialistas en estudios de comunicación y medios (arqueología y reconstrucción). En primer lugar, se abordan dos fases genealógicas de la agenda ingenieril e industrial: computación móvil, distribuida y con conocimiento de contexto, e informática invisible, imperceptible y compartida. En segundo término, se exploran los fundamentos teóricos y epistemológicos de la agenda. En tercer lugar, se recuperan líneas de investigación derivadas tanto en sistemas inteligentes como en Internet de las cosas. Este artículo realiza aportes para comprender el sustrato de uno de los programas de I+D más importantes del presente. Para ello, recupera su sedimentación histórica, presenta las conexiones subrepticias con realidades mediales contemporáneas (IoT, Pervasive AI, etc.) e ilumina los sectores en los que el proyecto de la ubicomp resta indeterminado e inconcluso. Las conclusiones problematizan el carácter de olvido que convirtió a la ubicomp en el sustrato detrás del desarrollo tecnológico presente y de su prospectiva.
