Abstract

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is an educational methodology aimed at strengthening teaching and learning processes through the design of school projects. One of the premises of this methodology is that when students face challenges contextualized to their everyday realities, they develop cognitive and socio-emotional skills, which are important for learning. As such, PBL constitutes an innovative methodology for sparking curiosity and a genuine desire to learn. The goal of this article is to present the results of a pilot project carried out in a public school in Bogotá, Colombia, where PBL was implemented for teaching a literature course. Through PBL, high school seniors created a radio drama to tell horror and mystery tales based on their local contexts. Two results stand out: i) high student engagement in the project, and ii) development of skills such as creative thinking and teamwork. Educational leaders interested in innovating their teaching practices can replicate the lessons from this experience and use PBL as a tool to strengthen the development of cognitive and socio-emotional skills among their students.
