Author Biography

Raquel Orzuj

Montevideo, Uruguay. Artista, pintora, dibujante de humor, caricaturista e historietista. También realiza crítica e investigación de arte y arte de humor. Estudió en la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, Instituto de Profesores Artigas y Taller Torres García. En 1977, inició su actividad en el exterior por invitación de Robert La Palme, director del Pabellón del Humor de Montreal. Desde 1988 es Foreing Editor de la revista de humor internacional Wittyworld . En 1994 fundó el Salón Internacional de Humor Gráfico de la Mujer. Obtuvo más de veinte premios nacionales e internacionales. Su obra está representada en el Museo de Arte de la OEA en Washington DC; Museo de Arte Moderno de México; Museo de la Caricatura de Tolentino, Italia; Wilhelm Bush Museum, Hannover, Alemania; Zemun Caricatura Museum, Yugoslavia; Cartoon Art Museum, California, EEUU; entre otros. Recientemente, en el marco de la XV Muestra Internacional de Humor Gráfico en la Universidad de Alcalá (España), se presentó el documental Resplandor de la memoria - Vida y obra de Raquel Orzuj , con motivo de sus cincuenta años de acción artística y treinta de trayectoria como humorista gráfica.
