Abstract: The importance of the general principles of law has been a point of agreement
among legislators, judges, scholars and in general all those of us who study and enforce the law. This is the reason why the aim of this work is to identify and then analyze in a generic way the main principles of law applicable to family relations. In order to do so, it is fundamental to analyze what they are, what their functions are, whether they have been recognized by our legal system and how our case law has considered and applied them.
