Helicobacter pylori: un patógeno emergente. Su relación con la placa dental.

Resumen

Este artículo revisa la epidemiología, los posibles modos de transmisión, los mecanismos de patogenicidad, los métodos de diagnóstico y el tratamiento en relación al Helicobacter pylori, microorganismo gastroduodenal patógeno responsable de millones de muertes por año.
Se considera de gran importancia la relación del mismo con la placa dental, lo que sugiere que la diseminación oral sería la principal vía de transmisión de Helicobacter pylori, actuando la placa dental como reservorio.
